The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has shared the latest developments regarding the case of the late Nollywood actor, Junior Pope, during a recent interview.
The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has explained why they were unable to take legal action against movie producer Adanma Luke following the death of actor Junior Pope.
According to Emeka Rollas, the AGN President, the Guild lacked the legal authority to sue due to a clause in the contract Pope signed for the movie The Other Side of Life, in which he starred before his passing.
In an interview on Arise TV, Rollas revealed that the contract specified only Pope’s family or his wife had the right to file a lawsuit, not the Guild. “Initially, we planned to sue, but after consulting our legal adviser, it became clear that the AGN lacked the legal standing to proceed. The contract granted the right to sue solely to the family or the wife,” he said.
Rollas also disclosed plans to begin licensing actors to address structural gaps within the Guild. He noted that Junior Pope was not a dues-paying member of the AGN at the time of his death, having failed to pay membership fees for over a year.
The Guild aims to reform its practices by adopting structures inspired by global industry standards.
