A young man in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area, Adamawa State, who climbed a 33kV high-tension pole demanding President Bola Tinubu’s resignation, has been rescued and taken into police custody.
The incident occurred on Friday, September 27, 2024, during Mayo Belwa’s market day, when the man ascended the pole along the Yola-Jalingo highway. After hours of negotiation, locals, with the assistance of the police, convinced him to come down on Saturday night.

SP Suleiman Nguruje, the spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, confirmed the event to Punch on Sunday, September 29. He stated that the man is currently in the custody of the Criminal Investigating Department and will be charged with attempted suicide.
“Attempted suicide is a criminal offense under our constitution, so we will be charging him to court,” Nguruje said. He further emphasized that the police are responsible for protecting lives and that individuals who attempt to endanger their own will face legal consequences.
